Bali Tourism Polytechnic Signs MoU with D.E.S.A Project: Participating in Community Empowerment through Tourism

Nusa Dua, February 4, 2025 – Bali Tourism Polytechnic (BiTP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the D.E.S.A (Develop, Empower, Sustain, Act) Project. BiTP believes that this collaboration will help develop community empowerment, particularly in Bali, especially in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The Director of D.E.S.A Project, Gede Putra Witsen, was welcomed by the Director of BiTP, Dr. Drs. Ida Bagus Putu Puja, M.Kes, along with the staff. According to Dr. Puja, this cooperation is a beneficial initiative in the development of the education, tourism, and particularly community empowerment sectors. This aligns with the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which focuses on education, research, and community service, where educational institutions must be able to provide benefits to the community.

The MoU signing was conducted in person by the Director of BiTP and the Director of D.E.S.A Project. Putra Witsen, as the initiator of the D.E.S.A Project, expressed his hope that BiTP is able to contribute to community empowerment in Bali, particularly in enhancing the capacity of tourism and hospitality. “To achieve our goals, vision, and mission, we want to involve BiTP in providing tourism skills training for village communities, and we are also opening cooperation in internship programs for BiTP students,” said Witsen.

In addition to the signing of the MoU, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was also signed with the Applied Bachelor’s Program in Tourism Destination (DEP). The MoA was signed by the Coordinator of the DEP Program, Dewa Ayu Made Lily Dianasari, ST., M.Si. The Deputy Director III of BiTP, Dr. Luh Yusni Wiarti, A.Par., S.E, M.Par., M.Rech., expressed that through the signing of this MoA, BiTP fully supports the provision of training materials, internship implementation, and tourism-related programs that can provide positive impacts for students involved in the D.E.S.A Project.

Strengthening cooperation and collaboration in community empowerment, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors, also implements the goals of the SDGs, including Goal No. 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities and Goal No. 17 on Partnership for the Goals. The collaboration, which focuses on community empowerment, is a priority for BiTP as an educational institution in addition to producing professionals in the hospitality and tourism fields. BiTP hopes that the signing of this MoU marks the beginning of an effort to enhance the capacity of human resources in tourism in Bali.
